How often should a driveway be sealed?
Most driveways do well on a two-to-three year cycle. More often than that wastes money and can build up too thick a film; much less often lets the surface oxidize and open up.
How long before I can drive on it?
Plan on staying off it for at least a day, longer in cool or humid weather. Your contractor gives you the real number for the conditions that day — driving on it too early leaves permanent tire marks.
Will sealing fix my cracks and potholes?
No. Sealer is a protective coat a fraction of an inch thick. Cracks get filled and failed areas get patched first, as separate work. Sealing over broken pavement just hides it for a season.
My driveway is brand new. Should I seal it?
Not immediately — fresh asphalt needs months to cure before the first seal coat. Sealing too early traps the oils and can leave a soft surface.
