Which pro do I need?
You know what’s wrong. You may not know who fixes it. Tick the problems you’re seeing and we’ll tell you which kind of technician handles each one, and which ones are a safety issue to deal with first.
Pick a symptom to see who to call.
You can tick more than one. If two problems point to the same service, one visit can usually cover both.
Symptoms in, the right specialist out.
Each symptom on the list is matched to the service whose technicians fix it every day. Some problems point to two: a ceiling stain may need a roofer and then a painter, and a cracked asphalt driveway may only need crack filling and sealing.
Anything that can hurt someone — a snapped garage door spring, a dryer that smells of burning, smoke from the fireplace, a pool gate that won’t latch — is flagged so you know to deal with it first and what not to touch. Where there’s something genuinely safe to check yourself, like a remote battery or a dirty sensor lens, we say so.
It’s a starting point, not a diagnosis. The technician confirms the cause on site and gives you a free estimate before any work starts.
Which pro do I need: common questions
Who do I call for a water stain on the ceiling?
Usually a roofer, because roof leaks often enter at flashing and travel before they show. If the stain is next to the chimney, the chimney’s crown, cap or flashing may be the cause. If it sits under a bathroom or shows up when water runs, it may be plumbing, which is not one of our services.
My dryer takes two cycles. Is it the vent or the dryer?
A clogged vent is a common cause, because damp air can’t get out. A vent technician cleans the full run and can measure airflow before and after. If the vent is clear and the dryer still struggles, the dryer itself may need an appliance repair.
I’m locked out. Should I call a locksmith or 911?
For an ordinary lockout, a locksmith. If a child, a pet or someone who needs help is locked inside, or something is cooking, call 911 first.
Who fixes a garage door that won’t open?
A garage door technician. A door that won’t open is often a broken spring or cable, which is under high tension and can injure people. Don’t force the door or keep running the opener.
Do I need a gate company or a fence company?
If the gate has a motor, keypad or remote, a gate technician. If it’s a manual walk or yard gate that is part of a fence, a fence contractor re-hangs it and fixes the latch.
What if my problem isn’t on the list?
Call or chat and describe it in your own words. We work out which service fits and line up a technician, with a free estimate before any work starts.
